About Me:
I rescued Daisy Mae through www.badrap.org in July, 2006. She was found starving & was at a severely emaciated 37 pounds on the streets of Oakland. Animal Control Officers believed she was used as a bait dog, a submissive dog without gameness, who brings out the dominance and fighting instincts in other dogs. Within 4 months of living & training with me & being raw fed, she filled out to 52 pounds and passed both her AKC CGC tests AND became a certified Therapy Dog. Now she's athletic, loving, joyful and silly. She has supervised doggie playdates every single day. We visit a local hospice facility each weekend where the 60+ advanced Alzheimer's patients pet her and occassionally even remember her name as one of their only words left. Daisy is a dream dog and a true breed ambassador. I'm prouder of her each passing day! Plus, I just love the upside cuddles that pit bulls are known for!

Your dog is so cute and it is awesome that she is a therapy dog. I love the picture of her with the stuffing ripped out of the teddy bear. My pit got a hold of a pillow once, it looked like it snowed in my room. It's never a dull moment is it?

Thanks Alison - it is tough but they are so worth it! love the pics of your baby - how cute!!!! can't believe she's ok with the Easter Bunny - you'd think that would be scary. Looks like you are doing great things with her too - so glad there are people like you out there promoting the breed and letting people see how wonderful these dogs are!

Daisy Mae is one inspiring girl! I had an interesting encounter with a stroke vicitm this weekend. Sarah was so drawn to him. She made me so proud and really made his day! These are the best dogs ever! Hugs to Daisy!

Hi Alison. Thanks for that info. I will do some research. I really admire the work you do and am looking to enrich my life with some type of volunteer work, or something. I would like to give back to the community. Glad to hear they accept all breeds. :)

i meant to ask you. how does a dog become a certified therapy dog (aside from the obvious i.e. taking classes, etc)? do most cities have this program and do most of them accept pit bulls for the program? i am sure it is very rewarding for you as a person to visit the elderly in hospice and also very rewarding that you are helping to put a positive name to the breed we on this site love so much.

thanks for the nice pic comment. :) bella is my life and she pretty much lets me do anything to her, including putting her in the pool. i am going to take her to the beach soon and see how she does. she went once when she was very very young. she is almost 8 now. i wonder what she will think of the ocean and the waves. it should be comical. take care. -cris
