No problem. I say it right from the heart. I dont think its odd to put up photos of you and not just the dogs. Its nice to see the owners too. Thanks for the compliment;)
They are all so wonderful looking, you are right....I love to click on the members and look at all those fabulous pictures !!! I have to add and change pics. !!
Thanx for the kudos.
BTW, Snoep is a she, I'll have to post a "rub my tummy" shot. She is definitely a natural model.
Before the digital stuff took over, I was a semi-professional photographer. I still work with film, but it gets expensive with animals due to the sheer volume of film that gets used whilst getting the animal to pose, especially outside where there's lots of Good Stuff. When my budget permits I'll get a good digital camera, probably a Nikon D90. Then Snoep will be a full-time model and I'll publish the Snoep calendar.
Though she was named after Snoop Dogg, "Snoep" is the Dutch spelling (my girlfriend is from Holland), the word meaning sweet, like candy. It bristles my hackles when someone calls her "Snoopy".
Never thought you'd love a pibble, huh? They really do grow on you don't they? Welcome to a very exclusive and special club.
I have to tell ya, I'm not a "dog person". Never have been. I grew up with cats, had cats in college, etc. Friends' dogs were fun for a few minutes, but never really did anything for me.
In the summer of 2000 I ended up having to babysit a friend's red rednose pitbull for a couple of months and fell in love! Between her goofy antics, intelligence, adorableness, playfulness, durability, etc.etc, I was totally stricken, if not addicted, and knew I had to have one someday. Some other breeds may be fun to hang out with now and then, but the only dog that does it for me is the American Pit Bull Terrier.
I'm not a dog person, I'm a pitbull person!
They are also VERY emotionally sensitive, which makes abuse even worse for them than other breeds. This sensitivity makes them very easy to train: make them happy and they'll do anything to repeat the behaviour; if they do something bad, you need only use a slightly scolding tone of voice and they go into "I'm sorry, I'm sorry" mode, and get a hurt or apologetic look on their face.
They never need to be physically "corrected".
On the rare occasion Snoep does something she really shouldn't, all I have to say is "What did you do?" in a low tone of voice, and she immediately gives me a hug to apologize, and is immediately forgiven (and kissed).
Be warned though, pitbulls have a habit of making you laugh so hard that food comes out your nose!
The only thing cuter than a puppy is a pibull puppy.
Also, rescues seem to know what you did for them and give it back in love over and over.
All the best to you and Tommy Gunn.
Yeah, the tree-climbing is pretty funny-I still giggle all the time.
Snoep's not the first pibble to climb trees though, I got the idea from a woman I met at a dog run in the city many years ago; she had found a pit puppy on the street that was near death and nursed it back to health-She would tap the tree and the dog would run straight up the trunk!
I had tried to coax Snoep up trees for a few months with no success, until one day she saw a squirrel run up a tree and went right up after it. She said to herself "Ah ha! I can climb trees!", and ever since then all I have to do is ask her "Where's the squirrley?" and zooom-she's flying up the trunk. If the tree has a wide enough crotch where the trunk splits she'll get up in it and just hang out. The tree in the pics is at a slight angle so it's a real easy one for her- one leap.
Her best height is about 8 1/2 feet. She can also leap straight up about 7 feet to grab the leaves off of an overhanging branch. She's leaped right to the top of a 6-foot fence to look over the top.
Pitbulls are smart like that, once they figure out they can do something, it becomes second nature.
They are the ultimate versatile dog. All you have to do is help them figure out that they can do something and poof, it's in their repertoir.
The checkout girl at the pet store once asked if she could give Snoep a treat: I OK'd it and the girl said to Snoep "UP!". Well, Snoep knows "up" alright, and jumped whole-dog right up onto the checkout counter! Applause from the other people in line followed. Many people are amazed to know this sweet and silly-talented dog is one of those evil pit bulls.
Changing the world one person at a time.....
What an adorable puppy pic! THANK GOD you rescued him. Rescues seem to KNOW you saved their life and give the love back over and over.
Pit bulls just have a way of seducing you. Welcome to the club!
You have to be careful though: when they grow up they become major bed hogs! If I get up in the middle of the night Snoep always steals my warm spot....and all the blankets!
Thanks for the kind words !! YOu just dont know how badly those words were needed and appreciated. Its been one of kinda years that you just wish would get over with ..thanks again and dog bless
Are you talking about my Brindle boy? His name is Lucky. :)
He was also the only one that survived in his litter! It was the middle of November, and the pups were 5wks and anyone could take them. And little kids took them home, kept them outside.. :( Not possible living conditions for a baby. :(
