Hi again

I saw your comment now first i think on the pic where our dogs are eating raw fish. Im sorry if i havent thanked you for the comment before and answered your question. Now i have figured out how RSS feed works and will not miss anything anymore:D Well... here the answer comes along with my apology if i have missed to answer, which i think. But as we say here and maybe you in USA too. Better late then never.

They do very well.on BARF and they eat everything, bones and all, they have to have a certain amount bones for the digestion.

Its a BIG different in how the dog works and looks since we started with BARF. The fur is more shiny and the dog gets smarter and more muscular. I suggest you loan or buy a book on the subject.

BARF stands for " Bones and raw food". When you have studied it and tried it out, you will never give your dog anything else. You can buy BARF thats frozen i suppose, we have it here. Its more expensive then dry pellets. Its about how much one can afford. Having more then two it can be very expensive.

To buy raw meat and fish in a store gets to expensive of course. Best is to have an own farm as we are going too have. Then we will have more dogs and feed them all BARF. You have a couple of links here just to get a little general info about it. But to feed BARF if you are going to fix the food yourself for your dogs you have to know a lot about it. Study it and you will be able to do it;)

I wish that everybody that has dogs would start "BARFING" even if its a little work with it and is more expensive.

I have to remind myself everyday that our dogs are not our kids;) Its really easy to forget. Thank you for the compilments. We are happy ourself how well our dogs behave and look. I guess we must have done something right even though we are beginners with dogs:D (2 years). We were lucky to find the best breed directly;)

yes this is great for us to share our knowledge with each other. we as americans do tend to follow trends and get lazy in our daily routines. i do trust and respect all the knowledge and in you have given me. i didn't know that the dogs could eat raw food with bones and it wouldn't hurt them. and that does make sense that them being cooked would be different. i do work alot of hours during the week but i will read the link you sent this weekend about the dry food. we eat very healthy so there is no reason why our dog shouldn't too. but this all new for me, so thanks again . chow

Yes it relly is good for all parts, how experienced anyone might be with dogs and this breed to discuss. Everyone at every level has something to learn;) We learn from each other and both we and our dogs benefit. The main important thing to remember is that even if we see our pets as our kids, they are dogs, and dogs are not like man when it comes to the gastric system or our mentality. They have to be given the proper food and raised as dogs;) Then we will be as happy as possible together. Its not only Americans that gets lazy and fall in to routines and "do as the other do". Thats good most of the time, but not always. When you start researching you will see that what i tell you here (that my Fiance Sophie has stumbled over when reading litterature about dogs, is true). It sure makes good sence that cooked food is either not at all benefical for the dog, or can be dangerous. You dont often se wolfs in the nature or in National Parks cooking their dinner:D That is again or wish that our beloved pets are "like humans" "like us". They arent, even if they through thousands of years of domestication are very calm and likes to be cosy with us and so on. We are men and they are animals. That does not mean that we should not care good for them or love them, but with that distinction its easier for us. Its easier to uphold the leadership to if we dont see them as "family members" (which they are;) ). But we see them as dogs first of all.

Take care

thanks for the web sites. i will check them out. some of the stuff you said i already kow but some is new to me but i will take it into consideration. it's always good to learn something new. i've handled this breed for over 10 years. it's different to us in the states cause we've always heard that chicken bones and pork bones, ect. are very bad for the dogs cause they will splinter while they are trying to digest them. but i am open minded to anything all i want is what's best for my dog. we feed him all natural food and he's always eaten the same dog food since he could eat hard food, but if it's not good for him i will certanily do something else. thanks again, you guys are great!

Hi again. The bones dont splinter as i said when its raw. When they eat raw fish or meat it must always be 1/3 bones because otherwise the dogs stomach cant digest the bones. Why they splinter when cooked is that they change and gets harder then. So raw meat or fish with 1/3 bones is perfect for the dog. It must be at least 2/3 meat because the dogs stomach registeres what he eats and produces gastric acid, depending on what the dog has eaten. If they eat only bone or to little bone it will just come out the natural way but the dog has no use for it in its system. To be able to get the calcium amino acids and vitamins from the bone the dog must eat meat at the same time so that he gets enough gastric acid to take that up. Its the same with the bones from the fish. They shall not eat bones every day, If you decide for giving the dogs only raw food you must give them vedgetable and fruit mash in the right amount and you must read a book about that. Its very important that its the right amount if you give them only that to eat. We give fresh frozen food and sometimes give raw fish, meat or liver. In Germany its a big movement among dog owners to make the food themselves for the dogs. The percentage of food the dog shall eat every day is 2% of its body weight. That can also vary depening on if and how much the dog is trained. 3/4 of that shall be meat and bone (in the right proportions) and 1/4 fruit and vedgetables. Four meals a week shall have bones in them, thats enough. You can have one day in the week when the dog has no meat at all. There is also some vedgtebles and fruit that is not good for the dog. The pork and wild boar meat as is dangerous for the dog because of the pseudo rabies that the dogs can get from eating that. It cant be cured and is always deadly if the dog get it. Humans are resistent against it but cats and dogs arent. Sweet water fish is not good to feed since the protein in it is less worth for the dog (the dog cant take it up).

When Sophie has translated the german text to swedish totally i will translate it to English and give it to you. Maybe you can correct it then and we could write something about it here on the forum, that would be good. I can assure you that its correct what we are talking about. You can do a little research for yourselt too.

Its good thet you dont give your dogs dry pellets, i will never do that again after reading that i showed you about it..

Its good that we can exchange thoughts and experiences in this and other forums. I have a lot to learn about dogs since the ones we have are my first. Milo is my first dog. But its not so strange that i got maybe more interested then i should have because of this breed is really somthng special;)

Cheers

I think you should do that its very good for the dogs with raw fish and raw meat. The dogs shall not eat raw pork or wild boar. That meat can have parasites in it and if, its parasites the dog cant handle. What is important to think about is that the dogs arent humans;) Its easy to forget that sometime, and that their bodys work otherwise. What they eat shall not be cooked or fried, it must be raw. That goes for the vegtebles too, otherwise they cant take it up. The vegtebles must be done raw with a hand mixer (i cant explain this so well in english but my fiance is putting a lot of info together now that i will translate from Swedish to English you can get at www.miloswebb.com later). Our dogs is in MUCH better condition now since we stopped giving them "dry food pellets" thats absolutely not good for them.We give them only fresh frozen meat (thats not perfect because it contains a little wheat) but the best you can buy exept raw meat, fish, chicken or liver. In proportions they shall have in an example of weighing 66 lbs, 2,2 lbs of food in two times a day. After the morning walk and after the last walk or training in the evening, before going to bed. Proportions of the daily intake is 60% meat with bone in it and 40% vegetebles mixed raw in a hand mixer. Its very important that they get the food after the first walk i read, its good for our leadership. Important is also of course as for man that we dont eat to close prior physical activity.

Fish oil (omega 3 and 6) is also necessary for the dogs. Thay you can buy liquid, its the best. The omega 3/6 in dry food pellets the dog cant take up, thats a scam. The dog can also have gases from dry food. If they eat to much of it the tummy blows up like a baloon and can turn around when plaing with another dog, when they are rolling. If that happens they have only a few hours to live if they dont get to the veteirnay asap. It has happened many times that dogs has died that way. In dry food they mix cadaver and dead bodys from veterinary stations.. its scary. Dogs has had symtoms similar from ADHD that has totally disappeared when given proper food. Dogs shall not eat whats easy and cheap for us but what their body is constructed for and is good for them.

This on our dogs website, www.miloswebb,.com, from a german expert will be translated, be patient;) I will send it to you.

Thanks for the comment on our dogs. Yes they can eat the bones as long as the fish is raw. That counts for chicken too and all meat. All they eat shall be raw. The only thing thats not good for them is pig and boar meat. It contains parasites the dogs body cant cope with;)
