About Me:
I love pit bulls and advocating for them. I have a pit bull mix I rescued, named Charm who is learning disc and beginning agility, a pit bull, Domino who I got from rescue this year who just caught his first disc! And my old chow, Ripley who still putters around at 14. Fighting BSL for all my dogs.

I love animals and have been involved in advocacy my entire life. I am dedicated to helping shelter dogs and try to help on any transports going through my area.

I have always loved dogs. But I heard so much about pit bulls and their plight that one day I took a detour and dropped by the shelter "just to take a look" and a little black and white pit mix caught my eye and in a couple of days she was on her way home with me. Charm, a pit bull/border collie mix is a high energy girl who captured my heart so completely I was hooked forever. It was quite an adjustment going from having a senior chow to having a very high energy dog in my life. But Charm and I developed a bond which has been the light of my life.

Soon we were learning tricks, playing disc and tackling basic obedience and becoming a great team. Life was perfect. Until I saw a video of a black and white pit bull named Domino who had been in a rescue for a year in NY. What caught my attention is that he was a high energy boy. I knew he had the same three strikes against him that Charm had, he was a pit bull, he was black, and he was high energy. They had given up on finding him a home.

So with some determination, Domino was soon on his way home to me. He's a lovable big lug and I am so glad I made that decision. He's completed his basic obedience and I am thinking one day we will go on for therapy dog training with him because he is so tolerant of everything. But for now he is just going to be spending his time catching up to Charm and getting used to life in a home. Everything was so new to him and he needs to learn some verbal skills.

So now my days revolve around the dogs. They go for daily swims and hikes off leash on a private piece of land I have access to which is dog heaven. In the evenings we practice obedience. Charm has started in agility classes and is doing so well! All three go everywhere with me. I call them the flying monkeys because they are a handful and never slow down for a minute. Its very true, if you have never owned a pit, you can't know what it is like to share your life with these highly intelligent animals who demand the best of you and give back more than you can imagine.
This is a video of Charm and I's first few weeks of agility class...we are having so much fun.

This is a little slideshow I made of Domino of his first couple of weeks with us. This is the first home Domino ever had in his 2 1/2 years of life. Every day he is so happy, sometimes he just needs to come tell me a hundred times how happy he is and can't stop wagging his tail. I love Domino.

And of course, there's my girl, Charm. Love of my life and one of those bonds we find only once in a lifetime. I made this slideshow last year of her first summer with me. We never knew if she was going to end up looking like a border collie or a pit bull as she grew...but these days she definitely is a little of both. The smartest dog I have ever known for sure.

This is a slideshow of my "pack" from this summer. We love our daily hiking adventures!

More monkey business...

The pit monkeys are off for the winter and mostly trying to stay warm. They do enjoy their spot in front of the wood stove.

The sad news is we lost Ripley, the chow recently. She was 13 1/2 and I took her in to the vet because she was having trouble breathing and they discovered a large mass blocking her windpipe. At her advanced age...there was not much to be done that wouldn't greatly decrease her quality of life...so I had to say goodbye very unexpectedly. Even though I knew she was getting… Continue

Update on the "monkeys"....

Charm, my pit/border collie cross has completed basic obedience and graduates from beginning agility level 1 next week. Wow...we have learned so much! Jumps, tunnels, chutes...everyone in class has come so far in such a short time. But no rest for us, beginning agility 2 starts the following week and we are so excited to see how far we get by fall. She's still been swimming almost every day (her passion) but not too much time for disc, but we sneak some in here and there, even if its just diving… Continue

Your dogs are beautiful. Thank you for adopting the dogs that nobody else seems to want. I never intended to have a Pit Bull either, but Paisley needed a home and I was her best hope. I had no idea how much I would fall in love with her....within a few months I was on the internet searching for another one, and like you I tried to find one that noone else would want. I found Atom, he's black and white and his ears were completely cut off....he just has holes in his head. He's the sweetest, most grateful dog! I love this breed, and don't think I'll ever have another breed again.

I happened on to pitbulls the same way. I didn't choose them they chose me! I worked at a retail/training facility the owner had a pitbull I fell in love with. He had floppy ears & loved everyone. People would come in & pet him, they would ask what kind of dog he was & stop like he might attack at anytime. I went into thet shop the other day the pitbull that made me love them so much is a very old grey haired man now. I asked the kid behind the counter how he was doing & he told me that some people still act the same way when they find out he is a pitbull. It makes me sad he one of the nicest dogs I will ever know! By the way I love your black & white dogs! What lucky dogs!

Those are great slideshows. They both look very, very happy & that is a great place for them. Looks like a great piece of land to have available. I can see the love in their eyes. I know that love too.
