About Me:
I rescued Daisy Mae through www.badrap.org in July, 2006. She was found starving & was at a severely emaciated 37 pounds on the streets of Oakland. Animal Control Officers believed she was used as a bait dog, a submissive dog without gameness, who brings out the dominance and fighting instincts in other dogs. Within 4 months of living & training with me & being raw fed, she filled out to 52 pounds and passed both her AKC CGC tests AND became a certified Therapy Dog. Now she's athletic, loving, joyful and silly. She has supervised doggie playdates every single day. We visit a local hospice facility each weekend where the 60+ advanced Alzheimer's patients pet her and occassionally even remember her name as one of their only words left. Daisy is a dream dog and a true breed ambassador. I'm prouder of her each passing day! Plus, I just love the upside cuddles that pit bulls are known for!

What is a good age to start training a dog to be a therapy dog? I want to get my puppy certified as a therapy dog but I am unsure as to what a good age is to start training for that. A trainer and I have been working with her for the past 2 weeks and she is a quick learner. She is about 3 1/2 months old. If you could give me your thoughts on this subject I would appreciate it. I would like to here a point of view from someone who owns a pit bull and has worked with them in the therapy field. Thanks! Mike

I think that they all show one by one in your view, until you refresh, but that people can choose "photos" up by your profile picture to see a slideshow.
I'm whipping this dog into shape. In only 10 or so outings, he's learned "sit", "stay", "down", "look", "jump", "stop" "up", "off" and "wait". Plus, I don't have to remind him. He knows that we stop and sit at each curb, no discussion necessary. I hope to convince them to rehome him once he's got all his manners.

thanks - that is so nice of you to help them with that dog. I am sure being in their 80s they just don't know what to do. How 'nice' of their son to leave the dog with them like that....some people.
