Steven;
That is exactly what the point was that I was trying to make. I agree about Charles Manson, some of these people are pigs , there is no other way to put iout.
These dogs are some of the kindest, gentlest dogs that you would ever want around. We had a terrier that was my moms when she died and that dog was the meanest dog that I had seen she would bite every chance that she would get. So this thing about Pit bulls biting and doing more damage is just a load of crap by the people who are trying to outlaw Pit Bulls

Great job, Mr.Cotterman.
Changing the world one person at a time......
By the way great job with Blanca, she looks healthy and happy.
You also mention a point I state often as well, but I put it a bit more extremely: "If you raised a child the way they treat these dogs, the kid would grow up to make Charles Manson look like Jesus Christ."

Blanca has made great progress, and is now healthy, compared to the condition that she was in November 22, 2008, when my wife and I saved her. I actually talked to a nurse today who was a believer of the mainstream media's propaganda in regards to Pit Bulls. Like I told her, people believe the words of the newscaster or reporter, whose stories contain inconsistencies and outright lies in regard to Pit Bulls.
I told her that the same thing could happen to a child if they were raised in similar conditions, and that service organizations for the handicapped and city, state and federal governments use Pit Bulls because of their tenacity compared to other breeds.
I left having convinced the nurse that Pit Bulls get bad publicity from the media and that PETA and HSUS couldn't be trusted either.

Snoep's good behaviour and silly antics such as tree climbing easily break the ice for conversations with people. They always get my 5-minute pitbull education speech, and are often amazed to learn that my friendly, adorable, well-disciplined, goofy dog is a pitbull. Kids just love when she sits and shakes hands with them. I've given many kids and adults dog-training tips, and always point out that pitbulls are not a "pet and forget" breed, requiring a few hours a day, minimum, of human interaction and exercise; and that the rewards are far greater than the input. Another point is the breed's ability to excel in more disciplines than any other dog, from Frisbee to herding to seeing-eye to drug-detection, and that they have the ruggedness and energy to keep pace with a houseful of young boys. I also point out that the only thing they're lousy at is guardian work, due to their innate submissiveness to humans.
Once Snoep gets her CGC and TDI, it will be an even better "selling point" on the true nature of the breed.
Many people express that they want to get a puppy and think they can mold it any way they want, which isn't necessarily the case, so another point I make is that adopting an adult dog is much less work than a puppy, that what you see is what you get personality-wise; there are no surprises like you get when a puppy matures. On this point I recommend getting a dog from a rescue organization because the dog will be matched to their lifestyle and come with basic training already "installed".
People often ask if she had puppies, probably due to pitbills' naturally large nipples. This gives me the chance to explain that for every puppy you bring into the world, there is a dog in a shelter that will be put down for want of a home. No matter what flavor of pibble you want, even a puppy, there is a rescue or shelter dog to fit your needs.
Interacting with the public is one of the best grassroots ways to change the undeserved reputation of our breed. Every walk is not just a training session, it's a public relations mission, and every person Snoep impresses is a reward in itself. and may even save a life.

Isn't that the truth, with the negative media reports, we need to do all we can to rehabilitate the reputation of these dogs and let people know they are not the snarling crazed dogs as portrayed in the media.
That they are good decent dogs, that have had their reputation ruined by dog fighting.

I do the Humane Education for a small Humane Society in Oregon. I take my Pit Bull, Zoey in to classrooms throughout our community. I love seeing the kids interact with her, and showing them how wonderful Pits can be. I also get the chance to talk with people informally about Pits at community events. I think a lot more people than I first realized understand that it is not the dog, it is the owner. It gives me hope that one day our society can get past the judgmental stereotypes and let Pits just be dogs again!

I had a heart to heart about pitbulls, BSL, training and mean people with my neices 3 boys today and showed them Wallace videos. They love Emma and I wanted them to be well informed. I know they may hear things from other people when we are out with her or if talk about pitbulls come up around them for any other reason. We set the record straight and we will talk some more as they get older. Their little sister loves all animals and no one is talkin' her out of it LOL! so she will be a great friend of Emma's and pitbulls everywhere...her opinion is...why wash the ice cream off your fingers if Emma will do it for you? :)
hand over heart, Amen
