Mark your calenders! October 25, 2008 is Pit Bull Awareness Day!

repost from Bless the Bullys

Why a Pit Bull Awareness Day?

In light of the constant negative publicity and sensationalized hype that surrounds pit bulls, Pit Bull Awareness Day was established as a day to focus on these incredible dogs and their devoted, responsible owners.

As breed advocates, it is our duty to show the public that all pit bull owners ARE NOT alike. As responsible pit bull owners, we can no longer be willing to sit back and be judged and criminalized by the image set by the visible minority of irresponsible owners. Although we all work hard everyday to change the undeserved image of our dogs, Pit Bull Awareness Day is the time to collectively make our voices heard. After all, we are the ONLY voices are dogs have.

Regardless of where you are located, please join Bless the Bullys in celebrating this wonderful breed and their devoted, responsible owners/advocates.

Please participate in an activity on October 25, 2008 to promote and celebrate responsible pit bull ownership. Whether you choose to particpate in a Luv-a-Bully March or another activity of you choice - an educational workshop, a meet and greet, a bully rally, a dog wash, a BBQ or just a friendly get together - please sign up to participate so people in your area know and can participate and promote responsible ownership with you.
Working together, we can change the image bestowed upon our dogs (and their owners).

Never underestimate the power of a few committed individuals to change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. ~ Margaret Mead

Awesome! Wallace and I went to PetSmart for an adoption day for A Rotta Love Plus on this day in 2007. Good times and having this day is a great way to get the word out to the general public instead of just us bully folk.

of the 2007 Pit Bull Awareness Day in St. Paul, MN- it was a great turn out and everyone was encouraged to bring posters and banners so we all could march around the capital! We even got press coverage! YEAH!

I'm hoping to go to one that is close to me. I volunteer at the Kent County Humane Soc and I'm going to talk to them about possibly putting on this here in Grand Rapids. Anything to spread the word about this wonderful breed that gets such a bad rap! Thanks for the link... I loved the board that had all the pictures on it. I have seen thaton line somewhere before but cant find it now. Its amazing how many THINK these are ALL pits... Great site!

There was an amazing response to this last year, and we all hope this year it's even bigger! For one woman to take an idea and make it happen in 150 cities across the US the first time out of the gate was truly a beautiful thing! We're looking forward to helping out in Atlanta this year =)

Woo hoo! I hosted an event last year here in WI. This year I'm going to start planning my event even earlier so it can be even bigger and better!!

Anybody know of any events planned in the DC or Mid-Atlantic region?

Simona, if you go to the Bless the Bullys link at the top of the page you can see the events in the making. If there isn't one yet, you can plan one!

The only problem with that date is that is conflicts with the RoverLution.org Luv-A-Bully March. It is also the last Saturday in October (October 25th).

Can someone try to contact Bless the Bullies to see if they would mind moving it back 1 week to October 18th?

If not, I can email RoverLution to see if they can move theirs back a week instead.

Just let me know which way we wont to go about this.

Thanks!

Chad

OK, I emailed RoverLution to see if this was a mistake, and it turns out it is not, here is her reply:

Hello Chad,

Yes, they are the same day and that was no accident! I was contacted by Jodi Preis and asked if she could set her event date for Pit Bull Awareness Day the same as ours. After talking (she is a great gal by the way!) it became clear that we share very similar goals—so we have teamed up. I believe us working together will help to publicize the events and increase attendance this year. Supporters can sign up to host a Luv-a-Bully or Pit Bull Awareness Day event on the Bless the Bullies website. There are already an impressive number of hosts for this year ;-)

Thanks for your continued interest and support Chad. I look forward to working with you this year in planning your March!

I'm a little confused.....the Bless the Bullys and ROVERlution websites list Oct 25th as the date for National Pit Bull Awareness Day, but http://www.nationalpitbullawarenessday.org/ and Misunderstand Pit Bull Rescue of Richmond, VA list Oct 18th as the date. Does anybody know which one is correct?
